Affordable, Easy Family Fun This Summer

At Brooks Village Green Homes, we understand that what makes a home isn’t a house – it’s the family that live there. That’s why in addition to providing you with the perfect modular or custom designed house for your family, we want to give you ideas for all the fun you can have there! For this blog, we’ll detail a few of our favorite low cost ways to have fun with your family this summer.

Bubbles! Everywhere!

We all know and love bubble mix, but the tiny bottles it comes in are gone in a heartbeat. Thankfully, bubble mix is incredibly easy to make from home and you probably have everything you need lying around the house! For the simplest, most accessible recipe, simply combine 1/3 cup dish soap, 1 and a half cups water, and 2 teaspoons of sugar. If you really want to supercharge your bubbles, consider getting some glycerin and combining a gallon of water, 2/3 cup of dish soap, and 2-3 tablespoons of glycerin.

Plant a Garden

If you’ve got a backyard that’s lying fallow, put it to work! Try planting and tending a garden with your kids. We love this activity for a few reasons. First, kids love being outside and getting dirty, and this will provide plenty of that. Second, watering the garden can be a low risk way of giving them some structure and responsibility, teaching them that their effort will lead to reward. Additionally, if you plant some edibles in your garden, all your hard work will eventually lead to a meal! You can have fun cooking with your kids while teaching them the value of eating healthy and where food comes from. We’re willing to bet that if your kids had a stake in creating the vegetables, they’ll be much more likely to want to eat them!
